Finding a safe and trustworthy place for your child to learn and have fun while you're at work is important. It's at the top of the list for all families, whether new or not to Flagstaff. Luckily, Flagstaff has several options for daycare, preschool, charter, private and public school.
Here's a list of daycares, preschools and elementary schools we've checked out, used and/or have gotten good recommendations about from community members:
Pine Forest School - Preschool through grade 8. Waldorf-based education. Charter school from grades 1-8 is tuition free.
Bambini Montessori Preschool - For ages 3-6. Downtown location. Positive parent reviews. No website. Call for more info: (928) 214-0295.
Flagstaff Montessori - Sunnyside - Top notch program. Great staff. Nice playground. For 18 months to 3 year olds.
Flagstaff Montessori - Westside - Top notch preschool program. Great staff, teachers. Great shady playground. For potty trained three year olds through Kindergarteners. The Kindergarten is charter. That means the state pays for half day Kindergarten and parents pay for the rest of the day. Only full day (8:30-2:30) programs plus before and after care offered. No part time offered. Very sought after.
Flagstaff Montessori - Switzer Mesa - Charter first through sixth grade. Top notch program. High test scores. Great playground area too. Very sought after.
Mountain School - Charter Kindergarten through sixth grade. Nice playground. Good program. Very sought after.
Haven Montessori - Private preschool serves ages four months old through 4 years old. Charter Kindergarten through grade five. Very sought after.
Rockhouse Playschool - No website. Call to get on waiting list: (928) 774-1282. Serving infants through preschool. Convenient downtown location. Fenced in play area. Been in business fo decades.
New Beginnings Daycare/Preschool - Serving children 1-5 years old. Fantastic staff, teachers. Very nice playground. Christian-centric lessons, but all welcome. No website. Call to get on waiting list: 928-774-8992.
Peace Lutheran Preschool - Sought after program for 2-5 year olds. Website full of info. Great playground. Good staff.
Kinsey Elementary Pre-Kindergarten Program - Great teacher, speech therapist, and other staff. Very caring. Good program. Low cost. For ages three through five. Three days per week (Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays) either mornings or afternoons, not both. Open to all but children with speech disability or related problems have priority. Free tuition possible for students reffered to the program through early intervention programs. Students with no speech issues serve as model peers to help peers develop language skills. All students taught numbers, letters, writing, even reading. Good academic base. Other FUSD schools have similar special needs preschools. More info on the whole program HERE.
San Francisco de Asis School - Private, Catholic school from preschool through either grade. Tuituion assistance available. All religious backgrounds welcome.
Flagstaff Christian Preschool - (2366 N Steves Blvd, 266-0696) From a school representative: "We are a
state licensed child care facility. We are a preschool that offers a literature
rich education utilizing the Handwriting without Tears curriculum. We also
teach sign language, spanish, music, art, science, as well as social studies.
Our students also develop their gross motor skills through daily gymnastics
classes!"
